The Bavarian Alps offer a very different skiing
experience from their higher and wilder Swiss neighbours. Picturesque mountain
villages
nestle in wooded valleys, and the skiing and accommodation is less expensive
than either Switzerland or Austria. The area around Garmisch Partenkirchen is
perhaps best known, and the many villages are linked to each other by bus or
lifts. But the area is best enjoyed with a car, allowing you to fully explore
the delightful scenery.

It's easy to reach Germany using the European
motorway network. From the Channel ports head for Stuttgart then Munich, from
where it's an easy hour's drive to the resorts. If you live in the North of
the UK save the drive to Dover and cross from Hull or Newcastle to the
Netherlands or Zeebrugge in Belgium. From Rotterdam and Ijmuiden (Amsterdam)
you might like to travel via Cologne (Koln), Frankfurt and Nurenberg to
Munich.
